After forcing the first overtime in Super Bowl history, the Patriots got the ball first and, as they have done so many times in Brady’s career, marched down the field, going 75 yards on eight plays, winning on James White’s 2-yard touchdown run.
“We all brought each other back,” said Brady, who was named Super Bowl M.V.P. for a record fourth time. “We never felt out of it.”
Brady had previously filmed a commercial for Shields Health Care in which his four Super Bowl rings are locked in a locker for protection. When the attendant asked Brady if that was all, he humorously answered, “for now.”
Well, “for now,” didn’t take long. Almost immediately after the latest Super Bowl win, Shields released an updated version of the commercial in which Brady adds a fifth ring. This time, Brady answers, “actually no, I forgot this one, it is kind of new.”
Clearly this was filmed prior to the Super Bowl. In fact, this alternate ending may have been filmed when the original was shot. A true act of confidence!
His performance certainly wasn’t without its struggles. His incredible second half and overtime came after a first half where the Patriots managed just three points and he threw an interception which Robert Alford returned 82 yards for a touchdown. He was hurried and harassed for much of the games. The Falcons sacked him five times and hit him on another eight occasions.
